Who it suits
Buyers who want the same formula as Calahonda, a hillside community with pools and sea views at a Mijas Costa price, in a slightly newer and more compact package, with a golf course in the middle. Riviera del Sol sits between Calahonda and La Cala de Mijas, on the slopes above the coast road.
Living there
The urbanisation is organised around Miraflores golf and its clubhouse, with apartment and townhouse communities on the streets that climb away from the A-7. There is a commercial centre with everyday shops and restaurants, and the beach is across the coast road at the bottom, with a promenade that connects toward La Cala. La Cala de Mijas, the nearest real town, has the market, the bank branches and the restaurants along its beach.
Riviera del Sol is a residential place, quiet for most of the year and busier in summer, when the holiday-use apartments fill.
Getting around
The A-7 runs along the bottom of the urbanisation with a junction at Riviera, and buses stop on the coast road. A car is the norm on the hill. Of our seven areas it is the closest to Málaga airport and to Fuengirola.
The homes
Mostly apartments and townhouses in gardened communities with pools, many facing the golf course or the sea, and villas on the upper streets. The stock is on average younger than Calahonda's, with more of it built from the 1990s onwards, which shows in layouts and in the condition of the communities.
Prices
Fotocasa's listing average for the Riviera del Sol zone in September 2026: 3,942 euros per square metre, up 12.2% on a year earlier, the strongest annual rise of any zone in the seven areas we cover. Mijas as a municipality stood at 4,107, up 7.9% and down 0.6% on the month. Neighbouring zones: Calahonda 3,819 (up 7.9%), La Cala de Mijas 5,083 (up 10.7%).
A managed home here
Riviera del Sol homes are used a few weeks or months a year by many of their owners. We hold the keys, keep the home ready, deal with the community and the gardeners, and let it where the rules and the owner allow, with a short monthly note.
Honest notes
Like Calahonda, it is convenient rather than charming, and the coast road separates the hill from the beach. The community you buy into matters as much as the home: fees, the pool, and how the building is run. Ask for all three before you decide.
